OVERVIEW
For this project, I decided to create a conceptual design for a season launch campaign on billboards ( and related applications ) for the Australian and New Zealand national soccer league, the A League. The goal of the campaign is to get sports fans behind their local club and get amongst the League, aiming to show the games exciting, passionate and chaotic atmosphere that many codes fail to match. This University Project was marked a High Distinction (90) with a very nice comment by the course teacher
CHALLENGE
The ALeagues already have their established brand identity with typefaces, colours and shapes, to maintain a realistic campaign visual solution, the campaign had to use the ALeagues current visual identity elements. For this particular university class, the assignment calls for the use of kinetic typography and uses a chosen type of dynamic text with purpose within the designs.
SOLUTION
The campaign's design follows the A Leagues current typeface and colours while incorporating my addition of kinetic type within as well. The bold and disrupted typography creates visual interest and communicates the loud, exciting and chaotic nature of games in the Australian and New Zealand A Leagues, which most codes in the country fail to match. The line “Get Behind Your Team” is simple, it calls on the audience to support their city's A League club. Different teams would advertise in their areas (For Example Newcastle Jets designs found advertised in Newcastle city and the Greater Hunter Region).
"Your project is exemplary in both craft and concept. The kinetic type system is innovative and applied with precision across your chosen category. Each mock-up demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of how typography can adapt while maintaining a strong identity. The work is visually striking and professionally presented, making a convincing case for its relevance to current design practice. The supporting statement is thoughtful, linking your design decisions to wider professional and cultural contexts. Overall, this is an outstanding submission that shows you are working at an industry-ready level."
